The Bolshoi Theater has a new chief conductor

Bolshoi Theater Director General Vladimir Urin introduced the new chief conductor and musical director of the institution. They became Tugan Sokhiev. It is reported by RIA Novosti.

The contract with the musician will be signed on February 1 for four years. The conductor will begin work from the next theatrical season. According to Urin, Tugan Sokhiev has a lot of other work so far, so he cannot fully engage in the Bolshoi Theater.

The general director of the theater noted that Sokhiev is young and he has no experience in such work, but the musician coincides with Urin in his views and has every chance of becoming a good leader.

Tugan Sokhiev is only 36 years old. He graduated from the St. Petersburg State Conservatory, was the musical director of the Welsh National Opera, the main conductor of the Capitol Toulouse National Orchestra. Since 2010, holds the position of conductor of the German Symphony Orchestra of Berlin. Sokhiev collaborates with the Mariinsky Theater.

Earlier, the position of Sokhiev was occupied by Vasily Sinaisky, who unexpectedly quit in early December 2013. Among the candidates for the position of musical director were named the head of the Liverpool Royal Theater Vasily Petrenko and the young conductor Dmitry Yurovsky.
